Butterflies are abundant in Arizona. Mid-August is the perfect time to
see the Two-tailed Swallowtail, the state butterfly of
Arizona.
Pima, Santa Cruz, Cochise and southern Graham counties are
prime butterfly areas. More than 100 species fly through the area during
the summer season, including Swallowtails (Family Papilionidae), Whites
and Sulphurs (Family Pieridae), Gossamer-wing Butterflies (Family
Lycaenidae), Metalmarks (Family Riodinidae), Brush-footed Butterflies
(Family Nymphalidae) and Skippers (Family Hesperiidae).
